Bio
"Kittyhawkdrive...utilising a less than standard system of violin and clarinet, as well as guitars and electronics, quickly achieve a dream like state of gothic ambience. Difficult to judge any distance here, as the whole shebang sounds like it was recorded half a mile away on a cool still night where the singers' voice could hover alongside the spooky scraped strings. A surprise package with no little promise." - Nightshift Magazine, Oxford, May 2006.
Kath - Vocals, Guitar, Keyboard, Trumpet, Clarinet, Melodica, Percussion
Kath is Kittyhawkdrive's glorious leader, acting as the band's lead singer and lyricist while sharing principal song-writing duties with Alex. Her talents with an ever-expanding range of instruments provide Kittyhawkdrive with plenty of diverse musical direction, and are matched perhaps only by her ability to prod listless, long-dormant bandmates back into action. She also, in her own words, "works a mean bar."
Alex - Bass, Guitars, Melodica, Backing Vocals
Alex is studying history at Oxford Brookes University. He resides on Cowley Road amongst a variety of strange creatures that Kittyhawkdrive like to call friends. Alex is one half of the Pratchett/Powell powerhouse - that's where the songs come from. Alex's fluid writing style is nurtured by the security of a close musical relationship with both Kath and Joel(having been in bands previously with both of them).
Siany- Violins, Backing Vocals, Knitted Banners, Hand-Stitched CD Cases
Siany is as an Occupational Therapist by day. Trained as a classical violinist Siany's transition into the dark world of Kittyhawkdrive was a pleasantly smooth one. Her particular triumphs include the haunting, dissonant part on splashing and the quirky, almost eastern violin part in 1920's black and white movie theme. Sian also doubles as KHD's resident seamstress, knitting our CD cases and banners.
Joel - Guitars, Bass
One of the founding members of Kittyhawkdrive, Joel expands on Alex's and Kath's creations (listen out for the strained sitar like echo in the ocean), drawing from some dark recess that must also have spawned the legendary cartoon character 'Kwalp' and his unique, worrying greetings cards.
